New Members 2026 at Kingston Gallery

I am delighted to be participating in New Members 2026, an exhibition welcoming six artists into the Kingston Gallery community: Elizabeth Awalt, Linda Bond, Steven Cabral, Suzanne Gainer, Bekka Teerlink, and myself, Alexandra Rozenman. The exhibition, curated by Jennifer Moses and Kurt Ankeny, brings together painting, printmaking, photography, and mixed media in a dialogue that celebrates the individuality of each artist while highlighting the diversity of contemporary artistic practice.

My contribution to the exhibition is Breaking Up with Philip Guston, a 40 × 60 inch oil painting completed in 2016. The work belongs to my Transplanted series, a body of paintings in which I imagine “breaking up” with artists whose work has profoundly influenced my own. In this painting, a theatrical studio interior becomes the setting for an affectionate yet bittersweet farewell to one of the twentieth century’s most significant painters.

The painting reflects my continuing exploration of identity, memory, displacement, and the history of art. Having been classically trained in Moscow before continuing my studies in New York and Boston, I have long been interested in weaving together Russian cultural references, Jewish heritage, personal experience, humor, and art historical dialogue. Rather than rejecting influence, Breaking Up with Philip Guston acknowledges how deeply artistic predecessors remain part of our creative lives, even as we strive to discover our own voice.

One of the pleasures of New Members 2026 is the opportunity to present this work alongside five accomplished artists whose practices differ greatly from my own. Together, the exhibition offers visitors a rich variety of perspectives and approaches, demonstrating the vitality and breadth of Kingston Gallery’s newest members.

Founded in 1982, Kingston Gallery is one of Boston’s longest-running artist-run cooperatives and is located in the SoWa Arts District at 450 Harrison Avenue. The gallery has earned a reputation for presenting thoughtful exhibitions that encourage dialogue between artists and viewers while supporting both established and emerging voices.

New Members 2026 remains on view through August 2, 2026.
